Heated throws, underblankets and cushions

You are heating a whole room to warm one person.

A heated throw draws 160 W. A plug-in radiator draws 2,000 W. Both keep one person warm. Only one of them costs 17p an evening.

  • 10heat settings, not three
  • 1–10 htimer, then the power stops
  • 30 °Cmachine wash, controller off

01What it costs to run

Four hours, the same evening, the same person kept warm.

This compares two appliances running for the same length of time. It is not a comparison of your heating bill.

02The range

Three things to heat, and three places to put them.

Every one of them at 220–240 V on a BS 1363 plug, with a detachable controller and a timer that cuts the power when it ends.

The same throw, at three levels of control.

The difference between them is not the fabric. It is how finely you can set the heat, how long the timer runs, and how big it is. Shown here on the Heated Throw; the same three levels run through the underblankets and the cushions.

The bars beside each figure are drawn to the same scale across a row, and every figure comes from the specification of the product it sits next to. Where the manufacturer has not given us a figure for this exact model, the cell says so rather than carrying an estimate.

Power 160 Wat the highest setting, against 2000 W for a plug-in radiator
Heat settings 10 heat settings, where most heated throws give you three
Timer 1–10 h timer in one-hour steps; when it ends, the power stops
Machine washable 30 °C machine wash, once the controller is unclipped
04How it works

Three things to do, and none of them is an app.

No batteries, no app, no account. A plug, a controller and a washing machine.

The folded charcoal heated throw with its detachable controller and coiled lead beside it.

Plug it in

220–240 V on a BS 1363 three-pin plug. No adaptor, no travel plug, no converter. The controller clips on at the hem.

The controller lit, showing the heat setting and the hours left, resting on the folded throw.

Set the heat and the hours

Ten settings and a timer from one to ten hours. The screen shows which setting you are on and how long is left. When the timer ends, the power stops.

Everything supplied laid flat: the folded throw, the detachable controller and its lead.

Unclip it and wash it

The electronics come off, the textile goes in the machine at 30 °C, and the two never meet water. Dry it flat. That is the point of a controller that detaches.

Close view of the folded edge of the throw: flannel on the upper face, looped sherpa beneath.
05Material

Flannel on the face you turn towards you. Sherpa on the other.

Sherpa is the deeper, looped side. It holds air, and air is what holds heat close. You put the flannel against you because it is smooth; the sherpa works behind it, whether it is against your legs or against the back of the chair.

  • 180 × 130 cm Shoulder to ankle on a seated adult, and wide enough to tuck under both sides of you.
  • Overheat protection On the heating element itself. It is an appliance that spends the evening on top of a person, so this is the second thing we say, not the last.
  • Detachable controller Unclip it, wash the throw at 30 °C, dry it flat. Never put the controller in water.

06What we take on

We opened this year. So we carry the risk, not you.

Four things we take on ourselves, and every one of them is checkable in a click.

Fourteen days to change your mind

Fourteen days from the day it arrives, for any reason, or none at all. Start the return from your account, or email us. We pay for the return: your account gives you a label to show at a drop-off point, and there is nothing to print.

Duty paid before it moves

The price on the product page is the price you pay. Nothing is collected at your door, and no carrier will contact you for a payment. Delivery is free on every order, seven to ten working days, door to door.

Two-year guarantee

Against manufacturing defects, on top of your legal rights. We are the manufacturer of record in the UK and in the EU, which means the guarantee is ours to honour, not a supplier's to argue about.

A timer that ends it

Set it from one to ten hours, in one-hour steps. When it runs out, the power stops. It does not stay on all night because you fell asleep. Overheat protection sits on the heating element itself.

The charcoal throw over the back of a desk chair at dusk, a single lamp lighting the corner.
07The house

An alcove is a small place you make warm.

Not the room. Not the house. The recess in the wall where the chair is, where the lamp is, where you are. That is the whole idea, and it is why the arch runs through everything we make and everything we print.

We are a young house. We opened this year, we sell twelve products in three families, and we would rather publish the wattage than a promise. Everything on this site that is a number comes from the specification of the product it sits next to.

08Questions

The five questions this range raises.

Every one is answered again on the product page it belongs to, in the same words.

The questions are answered product by product, because the answers differ from one to the next: a single throw and a double underblanket do not draw the same power and do not wash the same way.
